Family and Background:

Château Joanny was built in the Comtat Venaissin state forest, in 1880 by Joanny Dupond, a long-standing, loyal friend of the famous entomologist and naturalist Jean-Henri Fabre, who was also his neighbour.
An experienced winemaker and veritable pioneer of the Côtes-du-Rhône wines, Joanny Dupond was
finely tuned to the potential of the soil.
Today, the 140-hectare wine estate, which covers one single stretch of land, includes 120 hectares in vineyard production.

A Soil:

The vineyards benefit from magnificent exposure along a plateau on the southern slopes of the Uchaux massif, located in the heart of the Côtes du Rhône Villages appellation.
The clayey-chalky-siliceous soil covered with round river pebbles, the bright Mediterranean sunshine and the healthy Mistral wind
combine to enhance the early maturation of the grapes grown on vinestock which is an average of 25 years old.
The terroir in the Uchaux massif is fully and powerfully revealed in these red, rosé and white wines.

Harmonious Blends:

The well-balanced proportion of the noble Rhone Valley varietals also adds to the high quality of the Château Joanny wines:
• Grenache (60%) and Syrah (25%) make up the base of our red and rosé wines. Grenache provides power, fullness, fleshiness and vigour, while the Syrah adds aromatic complexity, colour, and fine, elegant tannins.
• Grenache Blanc, Clairette Blanche, Viognier and Roussane work together in the composition of the white wines, creating delicate balance between freshness, aromas, fleshiness and complexity.

Savoir-faire and technology serving tradition:

At Château Joanny, the winemaker completes the work done by man and nature, allowing the terroir to express its potential.
Joanny Dupond's descendants have always worked with the very latest technological resources, using them in respect of savoir-faire and tradition.
The modern wine cellar and equipment testify to this ongoing investment.
The Côtes-du-Rhône red wines reveal, great fruit, intensity and distinctive complexity ; white wines are very intense, with great expression of floral aromas, and are surprisingly capable of ageing (2 to 3 years).
Totally in harmony with the spirit of southern France, the reds, the rosés and the whites all team beautifully with traditional Provencal cuisine.

The Spirit of Nature, the Spirit of Jean-Henri Fabre:

At Château Joanny, the idea of sustainable development has long been a daily reality.
Influenced by his close neighbour and loyal friend Jean-Henry Fabre, the forerunner of today's notions of bio-diversity and natural balance, Joanny Dupond handed down to his descendants important values of respect for the terroir and
balance between the vineyards and the surrounding environment.
This guiding spirit is clearly seen today in the daily work in the vineyards, which is based on long-term, careful consideration of ecological balance and quality production.
